Slug-your-barrel kit

PLEASE READ ALL THESE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE STARTING

 *******YOUR GUN MUST BE UNLOADED BEFORE STARTING*******

X=bore diameter (Lands)
Y=the actual groove diameter

Step 1.  Clean the gun bore of the barrel thoroughly.  The bore MUST be clean to enable the slug to be properly engraved by the bore rifling.

Step 2.  Using the enclose forceps, remove the smallest diameter slug from the tray and liberally grease the slug with a high quality gun grease.

Step 3.  Place the slug into the muzzle (letter side down).  Place a dab of gun grease between the driving pin and the slug.  Put a driving pin on the slug and tap the slug into the muzzle.  At this point the slug is forming to the diameter of the bore and this is where the distortion of the driven side of the slug occurs.  Finish tapping the slug through the barrel adding more driving pins as needed to drive the slug out of the other end of the barrel.

Step 4.  If the slug is not Perfectly Engraved (see below), select the next bigger diameter slug from the tray, liberally grease the slug with high quality gun grease and repeat Step 3 until you have a slug which is Perfectly Engraved.  Once you have a perfectly engraved slug, proceed to the next step.

Step 5.  If the slug is Perfectly Engraved and clearly marked by both the lands and grooves, then measure the slug at it’s widest point using a micrometer or caliper to determine the groove diameter of this barrel.

See Note for additional tools needed!

 "PERFECTLY ENGRAVED"  What does that mean?

For this explanation we will assume a perfect .357 groove diameter barrel.

If a .355 slug is used to slug this barrel, then the slug will show some engraving and might measure .355 at it’s widest point.  It will be slightly distorted by the driving pin.

If a .357 slug is used to slug this barrel, then the slug will be perfectly engraved and will measure .357 at it’s widest point.  It will be normally distorted by the driving pin.

If a .358 slug is used to slug this barrel, then the slug will be perfectly engraved and will measure .357 at it’s widest point.  It will be extremely distorted by the driving pin.

IN CONCLUSION:
The soft slug which is “normally” or “extremely” distorted by the driving pin will give the true groove diameter of this barrel.

Note:
In addition to the kit, you will need a small hammer to tap the slug through the barrel, some high quality gun grease, and a micrometer or caliper to measure the slug.
